プラスチック製品の市場規模の推移 | 1985〜2024年

市場規模がどう推移したか？

成長期（1985〜1997年）総量が伸びた時期。生産量は1985年の439.1万トンから1997年の644.8万トンへ増え、販売額は1985年の3兆1,140億円から1995年の4兆690億円へ伸びた。

品目の入れ替わり（1998〜2020年）総量は緩やかに減り、内訳ではパイプ・建材が縮んで容器・硬質フィルムが伸びた。生産量は2020年に550.1万トン。パイプは1996年の70.1万トンから2020年の36.2万トンへほぼ半減し、容器は1985年の19.5万トンから2020年の79.5万トンへ約4倍になった。

量減・額増（2021〜2024年）生産量は2024年に532.6万トンへ減ったが、販売額は4兆6,565億円で過去最高となった。

上場企業はどう意思決定したか？

塩ビ加工の専業メーカーは、加工の量産技術を別の事業へ転用して多角化した。積水化学工業は1971年、樹脂加工の量産技術とユニット工法を組み合わせて住宅事業に参入し、後の最大収益源に育てた。

パイプの需要が縮んだ時期には、塩ビの事業で撤退と集約が進んだ。日本ゼオンは2000年、採算の戻らない汎用樹脂から、事業統合会社への移管と自社生産の打ち切りの二段階で撤退し、水島工場の塩ビ生産を打ち切った。積水化学工業は2012年に三菱樹脂の管材事業を買収し、信越ポリマーは2023年に塩ビ管等の事業を積水化学工業などへ売却した。

伸びた容器とフィルムでは、生産能力を増強した。エフピコは1985年の関東工場から1993年の九州工場まで各地に工場を新設し、1991年には関東リサイクル工場を竣工した。2009年には日本パール容器から食品容器事業を譲り受け、2010年以降は包装資材問屋を相次いで子会社化した。積水化学工業は2008年にIT向けフィルムの多賀工場を設立し、日本ゼオンは2020年に敦賀工場で大型テレビ用光学フィルムのラインを竣工した。
