コンピュータ・パソコンの市場規模の推移 | 1985〜2024年

市場規模がどう推移したか？

成長期（1985〜1997年）生産額は2倍近くに伸びた。コンピュータ・関連装置の生産額は1985年の3.4兆円から1997年の6.1兆円へ増え、これが山になった。汎用コンピュータの生産額は1991年の1.5兆円が山で、パソコンは1985年の3,390億円から1995年の1.3兆円へ伸びた。

縮小期（1998〜2010年）生産額は4分の1に縮んだ。2000年に4.9兆円、2010年に1.5兆円となった。パソコンの生産台数は2000年の1,204万台が山で、2010年は751.1万台。磁気ディスク装置の生産額は2000年の5,170億円から2010年の17.8億円へ、汎用コンピュータは同じ期間に2,200億円から398.3億円へ減った。

底ばい期（2011年〜）生産額は1兆円前後にとどまっている。2021年の9,518.7億円が底で、2023年は1.0兆円。パソコンの生産額は2015年の4,875.4億円から2024年の6,853.9億円へ持ち直した。

上場企業はどう意思決定したか？

成長期には、汎用機でIBMに対抗し、そこから事業領域を広げた。富士通はIBMに互換路線とSE営業で挑み、国内首位から世界2位の汎用機メーカーとなり、1985年には通信・AI・パソコンへの多角化に踏み出した。1990年には英ICLを買収して欧州・北米・日本の3極体制を構築し、1997年にAmdahlを完全子会社化した。NECは1978年にコンピュータと通信の融合を掲げ、通信機・半導体・コンピュータを一つの事業ビジョンに統合した。

生産額が縮んだ時期には、赤字を機に構造改革を進め、ハード事業を組み替えた。NECは1999年に1万5,000人の削減と社内カンパニー制の導入を断行し、富士通は同年にSiemensとの合弁でFujitsu Siemens Computersを設立し、2003年にはハード依存からの脱却とリストラに着手した。日立製作所は2003年にIBMからHDD事業を買収し、2012年にWestern Digitalへ売却した。

底ばい期には、ハードの売り切りからサービスへ事業モデルを転換した。富士通は2018年に個人向けパソコン事業をLenovoへ譲渡し、2021年にFujitsu Uvanceで業種横断のデジタルサービスへ事業を再定義した。NECも同年からDX・生成AI・セキュリティを統合するBluStellar戦略へ事業を組み替え、日立はGlobalLogicを買収してデジタル事業へ経営資源を集中させた。
