Background
He was an executive from Nippon Keibi Hosho (now SECOM). Masayoshi Son brought him in as President of Nihon SoftBank, less than two years after its founding, to make up for his own lack of management experience. It was an appointment from outside, of someone neither from the founding family nor backed by shares.
Selection
In April 1983 he replaced founder Masayoshi Son as President. Nihon SoftBank was then expanding rapidly, from net sales of ¥2.3 billion and 21 employees in its second fiscal year to ¥4.5 billion and 89 employees in its third. Because software could not serve as collateral, banks would not lend, and the company obtained funding through personal guarantees from Tadashi Sasaki of Sharp and others.
Initiatives
During his tenure net sales grew from ¥4.5 billion in the third fiscal year to ¥7.5 billion in the fourth and ¥11.5 billion in the fifth, the FY ended December 1985. The workforce also grew from 89 to 210. Oh! PC, launched the year after the founding, was a success, and publishing grew into a core business alongside wholesale. In February 1986 Masayoshi Son returned as President, and Omori left after less than three years.
