Background

He joined Noritsu Koki in April 1993, became a Director in June 2009, Representative Director and Senior Managing Director in December of that year, and Representative Director and President in April 2010 at the age of 39. From April 2009, two months before becoming a Director, he served as Representative Director and President of NK Relations, and in February 2012 he also became Representative Director and President of NK Works. In the fiscal year ended March 2011 the largest shareholder was Sanku Planning with 41.5%, and three individuals with the Nishimoto surname appeared among the top ten shareholders.

Education: Kindai University, Faculty of Commerce and Economics (1993)

Selection

Only ten months passed between his appointment as Director in June 2009 and his becoming President, with only a stint as Representative Director and Senior Managing Director in between. In the fiscal year ended March 2010, just before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥28.0 billion, with an operating loss of ¥6.9 billion and a net loss of ¥20.9 billion; sales had fallen by more than half in two years from ¥62.6 billion in the FY ended March 2008. The backing of the holding company with its 41.5% stake appears to have made it possible for him to become President at 39, in his 17th year with the company.

Initiatives

In May 2013 his title was changed to Representative Director, President and CEO, and in the same month Yosuke Matsushima, who had moved from Dai-ichi Life Insurance through A.T. Kearney, McKinsey and Marunouchi Capital, was brought in as Director, Executive Vice President and COO. Matsushima also served as a director of the companies brought under the group, including Japan Medical Data Center, Doctor-NET and Ikiiki (now Halmek). Consolidated revenue under International Financial Reporting Standards grew from ¥35.5 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2015 to ¥50.0 billion in the FY ended March 2017, and profit attributable to owners of the parent, after a ¥2.9 billion loss in the FY ended March 2016, turned to a ¥4.2 billion profit in the FY ended March 2017.
