1926年に井関農具商会を創立し、自動籾すり選別機の製造を始めたのが起源。
1967年に田植機・コンバイン・バインダの生産を始め、日本の稲作の機械化を支えた。愛媛県松山に主力工場を置く農業機械の大手で、欧州の販売代理店を買収するなど海外にも販路を拡大する。
