1879年に創立された鹿児島銀行が起源。
2015年に肥後銀行と鹿児島銀行の共同株式移転で発足し、熊本と鹿児島の地方銀行を経営統合した。熊本・鹿児島を地盤とする地方銀行グループで、2025年には北洋銀行と半導体サプライチェーン構築の覚書を結んだ。
