1924年に神戸市灘区で創設された日本ピラー工業所が起源。
1951年に日本で最初にメカニカルシールを開発し、1952年にはふっ素樹脂製品ピラフロンの生産を始めた。メカニカルシールと半導体製造装置向けのふっ素樹脂製品を主力とする流体機器メーカーである。
