He is a career employee who joined Chubu Electric Power in April 1978. It took him 30 years to become Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer in June 2008, and from there two years to become Representative Director and Executive Vice President in June 2009 and President in June 2010. As Executive Vice President he headed the Corporate Strategy Headquarters.

In June 2010 he succeeded Toshio Mita as Representative Director and President. In the year before his appointment, the fiscal year ended March 2010, consolidated revenue was ¥2,238.5 billion, ordinary profit ¥178.5 billion and net income ¥108.5 billion, a recovery from the net loss of ¥18.9 billion the previous year. He was promoted one year after becoming Executive Vice President, from a position responsible for planning as head of the Corporate Strategy Headquarters.

Initiatives

In May 2011, the year after he took office, the company shut down all units of the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station at the government's request. The following three years showed consolidated net losses of ¥92.1 billion, ¥32.1 billion and ¥65.3 billion. In 2015 the company established JERA as a joint venture with Tokyo Electric Power, creating a framework for transferring fuel procurement and thermal power generation. In the fiscal year ended March 2015, his final year, it returned to the black with consolidated revenue of ¥3,103.6 billion and net income of ¥38.7 billion.
