1944年に創業した明星工業所が起源。
1956年に堺工場で保温材「スーパーライト」の生産を始め、のちにナイジェリア・インドネシア・フィリピン・台湾などへ拠点を展開した。保温材を主力とするメーカーで、2025年3月期の売上高は663億円。
