1951年に創業した東和薬品商会が起源。
1965年に医療用医薬品の製造販売へ転じて後発医薬品の普及を担い、2022年には三生医薬を子会社化して健康食品の受託製造にも事業を拡大した。国内の後発医薬品の大手で、大阪・岡山・山形に工場を構える。
