Selection

He became the first Representative Director and President at the founding in July 1973, so he had no predecessor. He held the presidency for 45 years, from the founding until he withdrew to Chairman in June 2018. Even after also becoming Representative Director and Chairman in October 2014 he remained President, and the handover to a successor came three years and eight months after he began holding both posts.

In 2003 he made Sankyo Seiki Mfg. a subsidiary and led its turnaround. In June 2009 he also became Chairman of Nidec Sankyo, which succeeded that company. From 2010 onward he acquired one European and American industrial motor company after another, broadening the product line from one centered on HDD motors to automotive and home appliances. Consolidated income before income taxes fell to ¥13.4 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2013 but recovered to ¥84.5 billion the next year, and in the FY ended March 2018, his last as President, consolidated net sales were ¥1,459.0 billion and operating income ¥166.8 billion.
