Background

He joined Sony in April 1983, became Representative Director and President of Sony Mobile Communications in April 2018 and a Senior Vice President of Sony in April 2021. He joined Nidec as Senior Vice President in January 2022, became Executive Vice President in July that year and Vice President and Executive Officer in April 2023, becoming President two years and three months after joining.

Education: Kyoto University, Faculty of Education

Selection

In April 2024 he succeeded Hiroshi Kobe as President, Executive Officer and CEO, becoming Representative Director, President and Executive Officer in June that year. He was the fourth President other than the founder, and since 2018 the presidency had changed roughly every two years. In the fiscal year ended March 2024, the year before he took office, net sales were ¥2,347.1 billion and operating income ¥161.9 billion, a recovery from ¥89.9 billion the previous year. The fourth attempt at succession from the founder was entrusted to an outsider who had spent 39 years at Sony.

Initiatives

In the fiscal year ended March 2025, his first year, net sales were ¥2,607.8 billion, operating income ¥238.1 billion and net income ¥164.3 billion, all above the previous year's ¥2,347.1 billion, ¥161.9 billion and ¥124.4 billion. These, however, were the originally reported figures; later restatements of prior-year results reduced consolidated net income by a cumulative ¥160.7 billion or so. In November 2025 he acknowledged the harm caused by pursuing short-term profits and began reforming the corporate culture to add corporate ethics. He reorganized the business into five pillars and set out a policy of strengthening governance at the business-unit level and speeding up decision-making. At 4:35 a.m. on September 28, 2026, Diamond Online reported {q1}; at 11:10 a.m. that day Nidec, while acknowledging it was considering executive changes and a large impairment, disclosed {q2}, and was forced to respond. As a result its shares fell by the daily limit that day, down ¥500 from the previous trading day to ¥2,340. The next day, September 29, Kishida resigned as Representative Director, President and Executive Officer. Nidec disclosed that, while re-evaluating the conduct of officers and employees under the former management during the process of preparing the results for the fiscal year ended March 2026 and restating prior-year results, it had confirmed {q3} concerning Kishida. After the board discussed the future management structure, Kishida expressed his intention to resign and the board accepted. Michio Kaida, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, took over as President and Executive Officer the same day.
