Background

He graduated from the Department of Electronic Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at Kansai University in March 1979 and joined Read Electronics in April that year. A subsidiary of Nippon Steel Chemical making printed circuit board inspection equipment, it was one of the companies Nidec acquired from 1995 onward. He became sales manager in April 1991, a Director in June 1993 and Managing Director in June 1996, then Senior Managing Director of Nidec-Read in June 2001 and Representative Director and President in April 2003. He moved to Representative Director and Chairman in April 2018 and Chairman and Executive Officer in June 2020, and in April 2024 became Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Nidec itself.

Selection

On September 29, 2026, Mitsuya Kishida resigned as Representative Director, President and Executive Officer, and at an extraordinary board meeting the same day Michio Kaida was chosen as President and Executive Officer (Chief Executive Officer and Chief Technology Officer). Kishida's resignation followed the discovery of conduct relating to financial reporting during the process of preparing the results for the fiscal year ended March 2026 and restating prior-year results. The selection went through deliberation by a nomination committee made up solely of independent outside directors, and Nidec cited Kaida's record in working on the company's recovery as vice chair of {q1}. He is expected to become Representative Director after a resolution at an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders.

Initiatives

On September 30, 2026, the day after he took office, Nidec disclosed in an extraordinary report the losses booked in its review of the results for the fiscal year ended March 2026. On a consolidated basis it recorded impairment losses of ¥632.2 billion, ¥30.5 billion in special investigation and other costs, and a ¥22.5 billion provision for contract losses.
