Background
He joined Mitsubishi Bank in April 1979. He rose through the bank, becoming Executive Officer in June 2005, Managing Director in June 2011 and Director and Deputy President in June 2016, and became President in June 2017. At the holding company, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, he became an Executive Officer in June 2005 and Director, Representative Executive Officer and Deputy Chairman in June 2017. He moved up to President after serving simultaneously as bank President and holding company Deputy Chairman.
Selection
In April 2019 he succeeded Nobuyuki Hirano as Representative Executive Officer and President. He was the fourth, counting from Nobuo Kuroyanagi, to move from bank President to holding company President. In the fiscal year ended March 2019, the year before he took office, consolidated ordinary income was ¥6,697.4 billion and net income attributable to owners of the parent ¥872.6 billion. His tenure as President lasted one year, until April 2020, and he handed the presidency of MUFG Bank to Junichi Hanzawa in April 2021.
Initiatives
In April 2019, the month he took office, Bank Danamon in Indonesia became a consolidated subsidiary. The history section of the annual securities report lists the next entry as the sale of MUFG Union Bank in December 2022, and no other reorganization appears during his one year in office. After handing the presidency to Hironori Kamezawa in April 2020 he became Representative Executive Officer and Deputy Chairman, and from April 2021 served as Chairman of the Executive Officers.
