1909年に栗本勇之助氏が創設した栗本鐵工所が起源。
1934年の株式会社への改組とともに産業機械の製造を始め、1987年に新日本パイプを吸収合併した。パイプと産業機械を柱とする機械メーカーで、1949年から東京証券取引所に上場する。
