Background
He joined Nomura Securities in April 1984 and spent 16 years in finance. In April 2000 he joined Square (now Square Enix Holdings), becoming a Director in June of that year, Representative Director and COO in September 2001, and Representative Director, President and CEO in December 2001. It took him one year and eight months from joining to become President, an appointment from the finance and management side with no experience in game development.
Selection
In April 2003 Enix and Square merged to form Square Enix. Yoichi Wada, Representative Director and President of the former Square, became Representative Director and President of the new company, and Keiji Honda, Representative Director and President of the former Enix, became Representative Director and Executive Vice President. As of the FY ended March 2006, the largest shareholder was Yasuhiro Fukushima with 21.33%, and Wada held 1,700 shares.
Initiatives
In September 2005 the company made Taito a consolidated subsidiary, and in March 2006 a wholly owned subsidiary. In November 2006 it established SQUARE ENIX OF AMERICA HOLDINGS, INC. as a holding company overseeing its North American group companies, and in October 2008 moved to a holding company structure, changing its name to Square Enix Holdings. In April 2009 it made Eidos plc a wholly owned subsidiary. In the FY ended March 2013, his final year, consolidated net sales were ¥148.0 billion, with an operating loss of ¥6.1 billion and a net loss of ¥13.7 billion.
