Background
He joined Mitsui Mutual Life Insurance in April 1987 and moved to Actus Audit Corporation in May 1995. He joined Square in December 1998 but left in January 2000, and after a spell at Ota Showa Ernst & Young rejoined as an Executive Officer in October 2001. He became Executive Officer and General Manager of Accounting and Finance in April 2003 and Director in charge of Accounting and Finance in June 2004, spending his career up to the presidency in accounting and finance.
Selection
In June 2013 he succeeded Yoichi Wada as Representative Director and President. In the fiscal year ended March 2013, just before he took over, the company posted an operating loss of ¥6.1 billion and a net loss of ¥13.7 billion on consolidated net sales of ¥148.0 billion. Yosuke Matsuda became Representative Director and Senior Managing Director in March 2013 and Representative Director and President of the operating company Square Enix the following April, moving to the presidency of the holding company within three months.
Initiatives
The company became a company with an audit and supervisory committee in June 2018 and moved to the Prime Market of the Tokyo Stock Exchange in April 2022. In August 2022 it sold CRYSTAL DYNAMICS, INC., EIDOS INTERACTIVE CORP. and others, letting go of the Western development studios under Eidos plc, which it had made a wholly owned subsidiary in 2009. Consolidated net sales rose from ¥155.0 billion in the FY ended March 2014, his first year, to ¥365.3 billion in the FY ended March 2022, and operating income from ¥10.5 billion to ¥59.3 billion.
