Background
He joined Toyota Motor in April 1980, became a Managing Officer in June 2009, a Senior Managing Officer in April 2014 and Executive Vice President in January 2018. In June 2020 he moved to Toyota Central R&D Labs as Representative Director and Chairman, and a year later, in June 2021, became President and Chief Executive Officer of Aisin. Following his predecessor Kiyotaka Ise, he made it two consecutive presidents from Toyota Motor.

He succeeded Kiyotaka Ise as President in June 2021; his predecessor had served three years and became Vice Chairman. He was the first President of Aisin Corporation, launched in April 2021 through the integration with Aisin AW. In the fiscal year ended March 2021, just before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥3,525.8 billion and operating income ¥145.3 billion, short of the ¥4,043.1 billion of the FY ended March 2019.
Initiatives
On taking office he named carbon neutrality, electrification and software-first/DX as the three priority areas. He set a goal of cutting ¥400.0 billion in held assets, equal to 10% of total assets, by fiscal 2025, working to overhaul the balance sheet. Consolidated net sales rose from ¥3,525.8 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2021 to ¥5,117.8 billion in the FY ended March 2026, and operating income from ¥145.3 billion to ¥228.8 billion.
