Background
He joined Denso in April 1981, became a Managing Officer in June 2008 and a Senior Managing Officer in June 2014, and President in June 2015. He is a career employee with repeated overseas postings. Among major shareholders for the fiscal year ended March 2015, Toyota Motor held 22.31%, Toyota Industries 7.85% and Towa Real Estate 3.77%, with the Toyota group occupying the top spots.
Selection
In June 2015 he succeeded Nobuaki Kato as President. In the fiscal year ended March 2015, the year before, consolidated revenue was ¥4,308.7 billion and operating income ¥331.4 billion, down from ¥377.7 billion in FY ended March 2014. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and others estimated that about 11,000 of the roughly 30,000 parts in a car would become unnecessary with the shift to EVs, and the stock market was marking down parts makers with a high dependence on internal combustion engines. The appointment appears to have entrusted him with reshaping the company toward electrification.
Initiatives
In October 2017 he set the Denso Group 2030 Long-term Policy and the 2025 Long-term Vision, targeting revenue of ¥7 trillion and an operating margin of 10% in fiscal 2025 across four fields: electrification, advanced safety/automated driving, connectivity and non-automotive. In November that year Denso raised its stake in Fujitsu Ten from 10% to 51%. In April 2020 it launched MIRISE Technologies, an automotive semiconductor company owned 51% by Denso and 49% by Toyota. Following the large-scale fuel pump recall of March 2020, the provision for product warranties reached ¥254.3 billion at the end of March 2020.
