Background
He joined Denso in April 1966 and became General Manager of Production Engineering in December 1990, a Director in March 1995, Managing Director in June 1998 and Senior Managing Director in June 2002, and President in June 2003. He came up through production engineering and also served as president of Denso Manufacturing Michigan in the United States. Among major shareholders for the fiscal year ended March 2006, Toyota Motor held 22.98%, Toyota Industries 7.85% and Robert Bosch affiliates 5.37%, with the parent company and an alliance partner at the top.

In June 2003 he succeeded Hiromu Okabe as President. In the fiscal year ended March 2003, the year before, consolidated revenue was ¥2,332.7 billion and net income ¥111.0 billion. The appointment appears intended to apply his production engineering and U.S. subsidiary experience to overseas expansion.
Initiatives
He set a goal of growth outside Japan and outside Toyota. In February 2007 he established Denso International Asia in Thailand as the regional headquarters for Asia. Consolidated revenue grew from ¥2,562.4 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2004 to ¥4,025.0 billion in FY ended March 2008, and operating income rose from ¥266.6 billion in FY ended March 2006 to ¥348.7 billion. Sales to the Toyota group accounted for 49% in 2008.
