Background

He graduated from the Faculty of Law at Kyushu University in March 1947 and joined Nisshinbo in April that year. He became a Director in June 1967 and Managing Director in June 1970, and in July 1976 Senior Managing Director serving as General Manager of Sales and head of the Osaka office. He became Director and President in July 1979. Born in 1920 in Nagasaki Prefecture, he was a career employee who came up through sales.

Education: Kyushu University, Faculty of Law (1947)

Selection

In July 1979 he became Director and President as Keishiro Yamamoto moved to Director and Chairman. The two had joined the board in the same month, June 1967, and he took over the presidency 12 years later. Among the Managing Directors when he took office, Haruo Yuda had been promoted in December 1972 and Keiichi Ohara and Keizo Kanee in July 1977, while Nakase, a Managing Director since June 1970, was the earliest. On a board lined with former plant managers, the appointment appears to have chosen someone with experience as head of sales.

Initiatives

In the FY ended April 1980, his first year, non-consolidated net sales were ¥149.4 billion and ordinary income ¥11.7 billion, up from ¥126.9 billion and ¥11.5 billion the year before. In November 1981 the company built the Tatebayashi Chemical Plant, adding production sites outside textiles. In the FY ended April 1981 sales rose to ¥162.9 billion while ordinary income fell to ¥7.4 billion, and the FY ended April 1982 showed ¥170.3 billion and ¥7.7 billion. He is listed as President in the officers section only up to the 1981 edition, and the year he stepped down has not been confirmed in the sources.
