Background

He joined Nisshinbo in April 1982 and in April 2008, as an Executive Officer, concurrently headed the Corporate Governance Office, the Human Resources and General Affairs Office and the Real Estate Division. He became Director, Executive Officer and head of the Business Support Center in June 2010 and head of the Corporate Strategy Center in June 2014, then rose to Senior Managing Executive Officer in June 2015, Representative Director in June 2016 and Representative Director and Executive Vice President in June 2018. His career ran through the holding company's administrative and strategy functions rather than the operating companies.

Education: Shiga University, Faculty of Economics (1982)

Selection

In March 2019 he succeeded Masaya Kawata as Representative Director and President. It came right after the fiscal year-end was changed to December, and the irregular nine-month FY ended December 2018 showed consolidated net sales of ¥416.2 billion, an operating loss of ¥2.5 billion and a net loss of ¥7.2 billion. Unlike his predecessor, who had run three operating companies, he was promoted from Executive Vice President after handling holding company planning as head of the Corporate Strategy Center.

Initiatives

Consolidated net sales moved around ¥500 billion, from ¥510.6 billion in the FY ended December 2021 to ¥494.7 billion in the FY ended December 2024. Operating income declined through ¥21.8 billion, ¥15.4 billion and ¥12.5 billion before recovering to ¥16.6 billion, and the company posted a net loss of ¥20.0 billion in the FY ended December 2023. During this period it made Hitachi Kokusai Electric a subsidiary. Under his tenure, the reshuffle that placed wireless and communications as the core business in place of spinning moved forward.
