Background

He joined the company in April 1984. At the parent company he became an Executive Officer in June 2012, a Director in June 2013 and Managing Director in June 2015. In parallel, at the core operating company Nisshin Flour Milling, he served as Managing Director from September 2011, Senior Managing Director from June 2013 and President from April 2015. After two years at the top of the operating company he became President of the holding company, simultaneously moving to Chairman of Nisshin Flour Milling.

Selection

In April 2017 he succeeded Hiroyuki Oeda as President. He had joined the parent company's board in June 2013, so he was appointed after three years and ten months as a Director. In the fiscal year ended March 2017, his predecessor's last year, consolidated net sales were ¥532.0 billion, down ¥24.7 billion from ¥556.7 billion the previous year, while operating profit rose from ¥23.8 billion to ¥25.5 billion. He took over amid lower sales and higher profit, in a change that elevated the operating company's President to head the holding company.

Initiatives

In 2019 the company acquired the Australian flour miller Allied Pinnacle. In the fiscal year ended March 2020, reflecting the acquisition, consolidated net sales rose by ¥146.8 billion from ¥565.3 billion to ¥712.1 billion, and the workforce grew by 2,202 from 6,760 to 8,962. Operating profit, however, rose only from ¥26.9 billion to ¥28.9 billion. In his final year, FY ended March 2022, net sales were ¥679.7 billion and operating profit ¥29.4 billion, unchanged from the level just after the acquisition.
