Background

He graduated from the Faculty of Law of Tokyo Imperial University in 1928, joined Tokyo Dento and moved to Kanto Haiden in April 1942. He became deputy head of Tokyo Electric Power's Kanagawa Branch in May 1951, general manager of the General Affairs Department in September 1954 and a Director in November that year. He became Managing Director in May 1962 and head of the Capability Development Center in May 1964, rising to Executive Vice President in May 1966.

Selection

He became President in May 1971, with his predecessor Kazutaka Kikawada moving to Chairman that same month. Mizuno had become Executive Vice President in May 1966, five years before Naojiro Tanaka and Jintaro Komatsu, who held that rank alongside him in 1971. He had also joined the board earliest of the three, in November 1954, and spent 17 years as a director before becoming President.

Initiatives

In November 1973 he also became vice chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The company posted an ordinary loss of ¥3.1 billion in the fiscal year ended March 1974. In the following FY ended March 1975, revenue rose from ¥713.0 billion to ¥1,115.3 billion, and ordinary profit was ¥44.4 billion. In October 1976 he retired to director and senior adviser, and Gaishi Hiraiwa succeeded him as President.
