Background

He joined Daiwa Securities Group in April 1983, becoming an Executive Officer in April 2007, Managing Executive Officer in April 2009 and Director and Managing Executive Officer in June 2009. He became Senior Managing Executive Officer in April 2015 and Representative Executive Officer, Deputy President and COO in April 2016, and became Director, Representative Executive Officer, President and CEO in April 2017, in his 34th year with the company. Since joining in 1983 he has never left the Daiwa Securities Group.

In April 2017 he succeeded Takashi Hibino as Director, Representative Executive Officer, President and CEO, promoted after a year as Representative Executive Officer, Deputy President and COO from April 2016, an internal promotion from Deputy President like his predecessor. In the fiscal year ended March 2017, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥616.4 billion, operating profit ¥119.1 billion and net income ¥104.0 billion, with net income having fallen for three straight years from ¥169.4 billion in the FY ended March 2014.

Initiatives

Net income during his tenure swung between ¥63.8 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2019, ¥108.3 billion in the FY ended March 2021 and ¥63.8 billion in the FY ended March 2023. In the FY ended March 2024, his final year, net sales were ¥1,277.4 billion, operating profit ¥153.7 billion and net income ¥121.5 billion, recovering from ¥866.0 billion, ¥66.3 billion and ¥63.8 billion the year before. In April 2024 he stepped back to Chairman and Executive Officer.
