Selection
In January 2011 he succeeded Yukio Yanase as President and Group COO. Net income was in the middle of recovering from ¥21.9 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2009 to ¥37.7 billion in the FY ended March 2010 and ¥67.2 billion in the FY ended March 2011, and the share price had fallen from a 2006 high of ¥38,150 to ¥1,707 in early 2009. In June 2014 he also became Group CEO, taking over the ultimate responsibility for the group that Yoshihiko Miyauchi had carried since 2000.
Initiatives
In July 2013 the company acquired about 90.01% of the Dutch asset manager Robeco for a total of €1,937.74 million, about ¥250.7 billion, and made it a wholly owned subsidiary in October 2016. From 2012 it invested in 17 companies, mainly in business succession and carve-out deals, shifting toward principal investment with its own capital. In October 2018 it launched a tender offer of about ¥77.0 billion for Daikyo, a listed subsidiary in which it held just under 70% of the voting rights, and made it wholly owned; in March 2022 it sold all of Yayoi, and in March 2024 it transferred 66% of ORIX Credit to NTT DOCOMO.
