Background
He joined Mitsubishi Corporation in April 1985 and built his career in the power business. After overseeing the Middle East and Central Asia, he became an Executive Officer in April 2016 and Senior Vice President and CEO of the Power Solution Group in April 2019, and then became President. A man who had worked in power generation took the helm of a company that had made decarbonization a growth area.
Selection
In 2022 he succeeded Takehiko Kakiuchi as President. He took over after his predecessor's six years, in which the company made Lawson a consolidated subsidiary and, teamed with Chubu Electric Power, acquired Eneco of the Netherlands for about ¥490 billion, making decarbonization a growth area. In the fiscal year ended March 2022, the year before he took office, consolidated revenue was ¥17,264.8 billion, income before taxes ¥1,293.1 billion and net income ¥937.5 billion, and in December of the previous year its consortium had won all three domestic offshore wind sea areas.
Initiatives
The Midterm Corporate Strategy 2024, announced in the year he became President, set out a circular growth model of recovering capital from businesses where capital efficiency is hard to achieve and reinvesting it in growth areas. In April 2024 the company sold all its shares in KFC Holdings Japan to a Carlyle affiliate for about ¥40 billion, and in August of that year moved Lawson to an equity-method affiliate with the shift to joint management with KDDI. In August 2025 it withdrew from the three domestic offshore wind sea areas, forfeiting a deposit of about ¥20 billion. In July 2026 it completed the acquisition of Aethon of the United States for a total of ¥1.2 trillion.
