Background
He joined Kyowa Koeki in 1949 and moved to Mitsubishi Corporation in 1954. He then built his career within the company and became President in 1986. Mitsubishi Corporation had just relaunched as a general trading company in July 1954 by absorbing Fuji Shoji, Tokyo Boeki and Tozai Koeki, and Takeo Kondo belonged to the generation that joined right after the relaunch.
Selection
In 1986 he succeeded Yohei Mimura as President. The company's results were supported by dividends of around $100 million a year from Brunei LNG, and the year before, in 1985, it had drawn up the long-term management plan "K-Plan."
Initiatives
In May 1986, at the Brunei government's demand, the ownership of Brunei LNG was changed to 50% for the Brunei government, 25% for Shell and 25% for Mitsubishi Corporation. Since January 1977 the three had each held a third, so the interest that had supported the company's results shrank here to a quarter. Takeo Kondo's presidency lasted only from June to November 1986, and few decisions are recorded as his initiatives.
