Background
After joining the company in 1992 he moved to McKinsey & Company, and rejoined Marubeni in October 2007. He became Executive Officer and head of the Next Generation Business Development Division in April 2020, also took on the role of CDIO in April 2022, and became Managing Executive Officer in April 2024. He became President in April 2025 and Representative Director in June. Having become President without heading a commodity division, his background differs from that of Marubeni's previous Presidents.
Selection
In April 2025 he rose from Managing Executive Officer to succeed Masumi Kakinoki as President. In the fiscal year ended March 2025, the year before he took office, consolidated revenue was ¥7,790.1 billion, income before taxes ¥629.2 billion and net income ¥502.9 billion, the second-highest profit after the ¥543.0 billion of the FY ended March 2023. His predecessor Kakinoki had been promoted from Executive Vice President and Fumiya Kokubu before him from Director and Executive Vice President, so appointing a Managing Executive Officer skipped ranks.
Initiatives
In the fiscal year ended March 2026, his first year, consolidated revenue was ¥8,265.8 billion, operating income ¥664.5 billion and net income ¥543.9 billion, all above the previous year, with net income also exceeding the ¥543.0 billion of the FY ended March 2023.
