Background

He joined Mitsubishi Aircraft in 1930. At Shin Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, before the three-way merger, he became a Director in May 1962 and Managing Director in 1963, and after the merger became Managing Director of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in June 1964 and Executive Vice President in May 1969. He had served as an officer since the split-era Shin Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

In May 1973 he succeeded Shigeichi Koga as President, promoted after four years as Executive Vice President. In the fiscal year ended March 1973, the year before, net sales were ¥770.3 billion and ordinary income ¥67.2 billion, nearly double the ¥35.0 billion of the previous year.

Net sales topped ¥1 trillion during Moriya's tenure, growing from ¥908.9 billion in the fiscal year ended March 1974 to ¥1,098.2 billion in FY ended March 1975 and ¥1,217.9 billion in FY ended March 1977. Ordinary income, on the other hand, fell from ¥54.4 billion in FY ended March 1974 to ¥21.4 billion in FY ended March 1976 and ¥20.6 billion in FY ended March 1977.
