Background
He joined Fujitsu in 1980, becoming Corporate Executive Officer in April 2012 and Corporate Senior Vice President in April 2014. It took him only three years from Executive Officer to President. He became Corporate Executive Vice President in January 2015 and, five months later in June that year, Representative Director and President. After stepping down as President in June 2019 he served as Chairman.
Selection
In June 2015 he succeeded Masami Yamamoto as President. In the fiscal year ended March 2015, the year before he took office, net sales were ¥4,755.3 billion, operating income ¥178.6 billion and net income ¥100.5 billion. His predecessor's tenure had included a net loss of ¥79.9 billion in the FY ended March 2013, and the change came right after the return to profit in two years. He was chosen to carry on the separation of hardware businesses his predecessor had begun.
Initiatives
He carried through to the end the withdrawal from the company's founding hardware businesses inherited from Masami Yamamoto. In March 2018 he exited the mobile phone business, spun off in March 2014, by selling it to Polaris Capital. In May that year he turned the PC business into a joint venture with Lenovo, launching Fujitsu Client Computing with Lenovo holding the majority. Within those two months, Fujitsu let go of its two mass-produced hardware businesses, PCs and mobile phones.
