Background
He joined Fujitsu FACOM in 1968 and transferred to Fujitsu in 1971. He became Representative Director and Chairman in June 2008, serving as Chairman without having been President, and in September 2009 became Representative Director, Chairman and President. He stepped down as President in April 2010 and returned to Representative Director and Chairman.
Selection
On September 25, 2009, Kuniaki Nozoe resigned as President, citing illness. Mazuka, then Representative Director and Chairman, succeeded him that month, holding the presidency while remaining Chairman. In the fiscal year ended March 2009, the year before he took office, net sales were ¥4,693.0 billion with a net loss of ¥112.4 billion. Named right after the President's sudden departure, the appointment appears to have had the Chairman fill in until the next President was chosen.
Initiatives
Fujitsu held an extraordinary board meeting on March 6 and removed Nozoe as senior adviser because on February 26, 2010, he had sent the directors and auditors a notice retracting his resignation, and the company judged that the unilateral manner of sending it had destroyed trust. The same day it issued a correction to its disclosure that had given illness as the reason for his resignation. On March 9 the Tokyo Stock Exchange gave the company a verbal strict warning, saying the disclosure of September 25, 2009, had been inappropriate. On April 1, 2010, he handed the presidency to Masami Yamamoto.
