Background

He joined Fujitsu in 1988 and became head of the Financial Systems Unit in June 2014. He became Corporate Executive Officer in April 2015, Corporate Senior Vice President and head of the Global Delivery Group in January 2019, and Corporate Executive Vice President in March that year. Three months after becoming Executive Vice President, in June 2019, he became the third President from a systems engineering background, following Naoyuki Akikusa and Hiroaki Kurokawa. He served as CDXO from October 2019 to March 2023 and also became CEO in April 2021.

Education: Tokyo Institute of Technology, Faculty of Engineering (1988)

Selection

In June 2019 he succeeded Tatsuya Tanaka as President. He was the third President from systems engineering after Naoyuki Akikusa and Hiroaki Kurokawa, and had become Corporate Executive Vice President only three months earlier, in March. In the fiscal year ended March 2019, the year before he took office, net sales were ¥3,952.4 billion and operating income ¥130.2 billion, sales having fallen by more than ¥800 billion over his predecessor's four years. The role of deciding what to sell fell to him at a company that had finished letting go of hardware.

Initiatives

In April 2020 he set up a new company for DX consulting and brought onto the parent's board executives from SAP of Germany and Microsoft of the US. Arguing that the company itself had to change to solve customers' problems with digital technology, he championed a move away from contract-based work, including upstream consulting. In October 2021 he announced Fujitsu Uvance as a cross-industry offering business. For the domestic market he established Fujitsu Japan in 2020 and cut more than 3,000 jobs in March 2022. In April 2023, with business restructuring complete, he merged Fujitsu Semiconductor into the parent.
