Background
He joined NEC in April 1977, becoming Executive Officer in April 2008, Senior Vice President in April 2010 and Director and Senior Vice President in June 2011. He became Representative Director and Executive Vice President in April 2012 and was promoted to President four years later. He moved to Representative Director and Vice Chairman in April 2021 and to Chairman in June 2022.

In April 2016 he succeeded Nobuhiro Endo as Representative Director, President and CEO, and Endo moved to Representative Director and Chairman. Consolidated net sales in the fiscal year ended March 2016, the year before he took office, were ¥2,821.1 billion, down about ¥250 billion in three years from ¥3,071.6 billion in the FY ended March 2013. The change came after the shedding of loss-making businesses had run its course.
Initiatives
In the fiscal year ended March 2017, his first year, consolidated operating income fell to ¥41.8 billion and net income to ¥32.5 billion. In January 2018 he announced 2,170 job cuts in Japan, slimming the organization including head office functions. Consolidated operating income recovered to ¥127.6 billion in the FY ended March 2020 and ¥153.8 billion in the FY ended March 2021, his final year, with net income of ¥149.6 billion. In April 2021 he handed the presidency to Takayuki Morita.
