Background
He joined NEC in April 1981, becoming Executive Officer in April 2006, Senior Vice President in April 2009 and Director and Senior Vice President in June that year. He was promoted to Representative Director and President in April 2010 and moved to Representative Director and Chairman in April 2016. A career employee, he became President less than a year after joining the board.

In the fiscal year ended March 2010, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥3,583.1 billion and net income ¥11.4 billion, after a net loss of ¥296.6 billion in the FY ended March 2009. He was picked from Director and Senior Vice President, skipping the usual sequence through Executive Vice President or Senior Managing Director.
Initiatives
In April 2010 NEC Electronics merged with Renesas Technology to form Renesas Electronics, and NEC withdrew from the semiconductor business. In July 2013 NEC Casio Mobile Communications withdrew from developing new smartphone models. Consolidated net sales shrank from ¥3,071.6 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2013 to ¥2,821.1 billion in the FY ended March 2016, his final year, while operating income held level at ¥114.6 billion and ¥107.3 billion. In April 2016 he handed the presidency to Takashi Niino.
