Background

He joined Nikken Sekkei in April 1998, moved to Boston Consulting Group in July 2005 and to Sumitomo 3M (now 3M Japan) in October 2010. At Sumitomo 3M he served as head of business development and as general manager of the commercial care and infection prevention divisions. He joined Nippon Sheet Glass in August 2018 as Senior Executive Officer and head of corporate planning, became Senior Vice President and head of the Architectural Glass business in January 2021, and Representative Executive Officer, Executive Vice President and COO in April 2022. It was four years and eight months from joining to becoming President.

Education: University of Tokyo, Graduate School of Engineering, Master's Program (1998)

Selection

In April 2023 he succeeded Shigeki Mori as Representative Executive Officer, President and CEO. In the fiscal year before he took over, ended March 2023, net sales were ¥763.5 billion and operating profit ¥34.8 billion, both up, yet the company posted a net loss of ¥33.8 billion. Hosonuma had become Representative Executive Officer, Executive Vice President and COO only the previous April, in 2022, so a mid-career hire who had overseen corporate planning and architectural glass was elevated to President within a year.

Initiatives

In his first year, FY ended March 2024, net sales were ¥832.5 billion, operating profit ¥35.9 billion and net income ¥10.6 billion, a return to the black. In FY ended March 2025 operating profit fell to ¥16.5 billion with a net loss of ¥13.8 billion, while FY ended March 2026 brought net sales of ¥879.5 billion, operating profit of ¥28.8 billion and net income of ¥4.4 billion. As of FY ended March 2026, funds sat among the top shareholders, led by USD Corporate Mezzanine No. 4 at 9.79% and Japan Industrial Solutions No. 2 at 9.07%.
