Background

He joined Mitsubishi Bank in April 1986 and moved to GE Japan in February 2002 as General Manager of Business Development. He went on to serve as Asia Pacific President of GE Sensing from October 2004, President and CEO of Momentive's silicones business from October 2008 and Representative Director and President of GKN Driveline Japan from January 2013. He joined Showa Denko in October 2015 as a Senior Corporate Fellow. He was an outsider who had spent the 29 years before joining at a bank and foreign manufacturers.

In January 2022 he succeeded Kohei Morikawa as Representative Director, President and CEO. He took office six years and three months after joining Showa Denko, having become an Executive Officer in January 2016, Director and Managing Executive Officer in March 2017 and Representative Director in March 2020. In the FY ended December 2021, the year before he took office, the company posted a net loss of ¥12.0 billion on consolidated net sales of ¥1,419.6 billion and operating income of ¥87.2 billion, with 33,684 employees. In January 2023 the company changed its name from Showa Denko to Resonac Holdings. In the FY ended December 2022, his first year, consolidated net sales were ¥1,392.6 billion, operating income ¥61.7 billion and net income ¥32.4 billion, but in the FY ended December 2023 the company swung to an operating loss of ¥9.4 billion and a net loss of ¥18.9 billion. The workforce fell from 33,684 in the FY ended December 2021 to 23,804 in the FY ended December 2025. Operating income recovered to ¥89.0 billion in the FY ended December 2024 and was ¥46.7 billion in the FY ended December 2025.
