Background
He joined Meiji Seika in 1964 and became a Director in June 1995. He became Managing Director in June 1999 and Representative Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer in June 2001, and was appointed President of the company in June 2003. He served as President of Meiji Seika for six years until the business integration. He reached the top of the integrated company not from the dairy side but from Meiji Seika, with its confectionery and pharmaceutical businesses.
Selection
In April 2009 Meiji Seika and Meiji Milk Products established Meiji Holdings through a joint share transfer, and he became its first President. It was not a merger but an integration in which both companies came under the holding company on equal terms. He served three years until handing the presidency to Shigetaro Asano in June 2012. The order of things had the President of Meiji Seika serve directly as the first head of the integrated company.
Initiatives
In April 2011 the businesses of the two subsidiaries were reorganized into food and pharmaceuticals, and the food operating company Meiji was launched. Consolidated net sales were roughly flat, from ¥1,106.6 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2010 to ¥1,109.2 billion in FY ended March 2012, while operating profit fell from ¥28.8 billion to ¥20.2 billion. Employees grew from 14,168 to 15,338 over the same period. He handed over to the next generation after three years, before the effects of integration could be shown in the numbers.
