Background

He graduated from Otaru Commercial School in 1926 and joined Meiji Sugar Manufacturing the following year. He moved to Meiji Milk Products in 1941 and, after serving as accounting section chief, head of the research office, general manager of planning and head of the Hokkaido office, became general manager of accounting in April 1956. He became a Director in November 1959 and Managing Director in November 1961, then served as Tokyo sales office manager from September 1962 and head of sales from October 1963. His career crossed from administration to sales.

Education: Otaru Commercial School (1926)

Selection

He became Senior Managing Director in May 1969 but left the board in November 1971. After serving as an adviser in 1972 he returned as Senior Managing Director that November, and in May 1973 succeeded Yoshio Kokusho, who had returned as President, as President. Jiro Kikuchi and Shoji Okada, who also stepped down in November 1971, returned to the board during 1972, and Ono reached the presidency a year and a half after stepping down. The appointment appears to have come after the officer reshuffle had been reversed once.

Initiatives

As of May 1974 the company had 18 Directors and three auditors, and had built a structure in which officers also headed wide-area sales bases such as the Hokkaido branch and the Tokyo general branch. In May 1975 he promoted Keijo Fujimi to Executive Vice President and Yoshiharu Akamatsu and Jiro Kikuchi to Senior Managing Directors, and in June 1977 became Chairman and handed the presidency to Fujimi. A man who had left the board in 1971 was, four years later, in the position of sending off the next President.
