Background

At Meiji Seika he became a Director in June 2007, an Executive Officer in June 2009 and Managing Executive Officer in June 2010. In the April 2011 business reorganization he moved to the food operating company Meiji, and after serving as Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer became its President in June 2012. From June 2012 he also served as a Director of Meiji Holdings, rising to President of the holding company six years later.

Education: Waseda University, Faculty of Law (1976)

Selection

In June 2018 he succeeded Masahiko Matsuo as President. In the fiscal year ended March 2018, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥1,240.8 billion and operating profit ¥94.7 billion, with sales roughly flat from ¥1,242.4 billion the previous year and operating profit up from ¥88.4 billion. An officer who had been President of the food operating company Meiji for six years moved to President of the holding company. It appears to have been a succession placing an operating company President at the top of the holding company.

Initiatives

In June 2020 he also took on the role of CEO. Consolidated operating profit rose for three straight years, from ¥94.7 billion in FY ended March 2018 to ¥98.4 billion in FY ended March 2019, ¥102.7 billion in FY ended March 2020 and ¥106.1 billion in FY ended March 2021. It then fell to ¥75.4 billion in FY ended March 2023, and in his final year, FY ended March 2025, was ¥84.7 billion, so he handed over with profit still below the level of the year before he took office.
