Renaming Senko Unyu as Senko (1973)

A direction written into the name, and the lag before it was acted on

The 1973 renaming was in itself a modest step — striking two characters, “transport,” from the corporate name — and the surviving record does not make clear how far it was accompanied at the time by a concrete business strategy. The Siberian Land Bridge, the removals business and the PD centres all took several more years to appear, so caution is warranted before asserting that the resolve “not to be bound by transport alone” came with a clear blueprint from the outset.

Even so, it is defensible to draw a single line from the 1973 name change to the 65:35 split between logistics and non-logistics that Senko Group Holdings reports in 2025. Given that Fukuda Yasuhisa himself witnessed the renaming shortly after joining the company, and in later years took up that intent and led the diversification, the 1973 change can be read as the start of a long corporate transformation in which the direction was inscribed in the name well before it was executed.
