He graduated from the politics and economics course of the Waseda University vocational school in July 1916, joined Nagoya Electric Railway and moved to Nagoya Railroad when it was established in June 1935. He climbed the internal ladder one step at a time, becoming a Director in May 1937, Managing Director in May 1944, Senior Managing Director in July 1949 and Executive Vice President in February 1953, and became Representative Director and President in January 1955. Among board members who had come through mergers with Aichi Electric Railway and Mino Electric Railway, he was a company man going back to Nagoya Electric Railway.

Selection

His predecessor Kinnosuke Jinno became President in May 1945 and Representative Director and Chairman in January 1955. In the same month Kenzo Senda became Representative Director and President. Senda had been Executive Vice President since February 1953. Motoo Tsuchikawa and Hideo Sato also became Representative Directors and Executive Vice Presidents in the same month of January 1955, making it a change that reset the Chairman, President and Executive Vice Presidents all at once.

Initiatives

In December 1954, just before he became President, Nagoya Railroad listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange and in the same month opened Meitetsu Department Store under its sole management, entering retail. After he became President, the Meitetsu Building was fully completed in July 1957. Outside the core business he also became President of Tokai Television Broadcasting in February 1958 and of Meitetsu World Travel in October that year, and became Chairman of the Chubu Railway Association in October 1960. In November 1961 he handed the presidency to Motoo Tsuchikawa and became Chairman.
