Background

A career employee, he joined Fuji Electric in April 1974. The titles recorded in the directors section of the annual securities report begin with Senior Executive Officer in April 2008, so his assignments during his first 34 years cannot be traced from that source. He became Representative Director and Executive Vice President in June 2008 and, one year and ten months later, President in April 2010. From April 2011, the year after taking office, he also served as President and Executive Officer, and in April 2022 he moved to Chairman and CEO.

Education: Yamanashi University, Faculty of Engineering, Applied Chemistry (1974)

Selection

In April 2010 he succeeded Haruo Ito as President. In the fiscal year ended March 2010, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥691.2 billion and operating income ¥0.9 billion, with an ordinary loss of ¥0.5 billion. In the FY ended March 2009 the company had sunk to an operating loss of ¥18.9 billion and a net loss of ¥73.3 billion. The largest shareholder was Fujitsu with 9.96%, and the turnaround from losses was entrusted to an internally promoted Executive Vice President.

Initiatives

In 2012 he unwound the pure holding company structure adopted in 2003 and reintegrated the group into an operating company. At the same time he chose to concentrate investment on power semiconductors and power electronics. Consolidated net sales were ¥691.2 billion with operating income of ¥0.9 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2010, the year before he took office, and ¥910.2 billion with operating income of ¥74.8 billion in the FY ended March 2022, his final year. Over the same 12 years consolidated employees rose from 24,524 to 26,757.
