Background

He graduated from Kobe Higher Commercial School in March 1919 and joined the Ashio mining works of Furukawa Gomei in April that year. He joined Fuji Electric Manufacturing in March 1936; 17 years later, in November 1953, he became Managing Director of Fuji Tsushinki Manufacturing, and in November 1958 Representative Director and President of Kobe Kogyo. He became Representative Director and Executive Vice President of the parent company in November 1964 and was promoted to President half a year later. His career began in the Furukawa group, and he joined the parent's management after running affiliated companies.

Education: Kobe Higher Commercial School (now Kobe University) (1919)

Selection

In May 1965 he succeeded Masuhiko Kanari as President. He had returned to the parent only half a year earlier, in November 1964, having spent the previous 11 years at the affiliates Fuji Tsushinki Manufacturing and Kobe Kogyo. Shichinoshin Maeda, who had climbed the board ranks within the parent, was an engineer who joined in 1925; he became Senior Managing Director in November 1962, Representative Senior Managing Director in November 1965, half a year after Aida took office, and Executive Vice President in November 1966. Rather than an engineer who rose step by step inside the company, a man who had run group companies was installed as President.

Initiatives

He served three years and six months, from May 1965 to November 1968. In October 1968 the company absorbed Kawasaki Denki Seizo, gaining its Kobe and Suzuka plants. This followed the Chiba Plant of August 1961 and the Central Research Laboratory of September 1963 under his predecessor, continuing the expansion of production and research bases. Non-consolidated net sales were ¥65.2 billion in the fiscal year ended March 1968, his final year. In November 1968 he became Representative Director and Chairman, and Executive Vice President Shichinoshin Maeda succeeded him.
