Background
He joined Mitsubishi Mining & Cement in April 1979. Mitsubishi Metal and Mitsubishi Mining & Cement merged in December 1990 to form Mitsubishi Materials, so he came from the former Mining & Cement side. He became Managing Executive Officer in April 2014, Managing Director that June and Executive Vice President in April 2016, and was named President in June 2018.
Selection
In June 2018 he succeeded Akira Takeuchi as President. Takeuchi stepped down as President and moved to Chairman after the disclosure of quality data falsification at subsidiaries. In the fiscal year before he took over, ended March 2018, consolidated net sales rose to ¥1,599.5 billion and operating profit was ¥72.8 billion, but net income was only ¥34.5 billion. The appointment entrusted cleaning up after the misconduct and narrowing the business to a career employee with two years as Executive Vice President.

The company posted a consolidated net loss of ¥72.8 billion in FY ended March 2020 and returned to the black with ¥24.4 billion in FY ended March 2021. In 2020 it set a medium-term management strategy and began reshuffling its business portfolio, and consolidated employees halved from 27,162 in FY ended March 2021 to 13,711 in FY ended March 2022. In his final year, FY ended March 2025, net sales were ¥1,962.0 billion and ordinary profit ¥60.2 billion, up from ¥1,599.5 billion in the year before he took office.
