Background
He joined Mitsubishi Materials in April 1986, became Executive Officer and Vice President of the Metalworking Solutions Company in April 2019, and Managing Executive Officer and President of that company in April 2020. After serving as CGO from April 2023 and CSuO from April 2024, he became Executive Officer, President and CEO in April 2025. He came up through the business side, moving from leading the metalworking business to corporate-wide executive functions.
Selection
In April 2025 he succeeded Naoki Ono as Executive Officer, President and CEO. In the fiscal year before he took over, ended March 2025, consolidated net sales were ¥1,962.0 billion, operating profit ¥37.1 billion and net income ¥34.0 billion; sales rose by more than ¥420 billion from ¥1,540.6 billion the year before, but the operating margin was just 1.9%. The change appears to have entrusted him with restoring margins rather than growing scale.
Initiatives
In his first full year, FY ended March 2026, consolidated net sales were ¥1,844.1 billion, operating profit ¥60.5 billion, ordinary profit ¥97.6 billion and net income ¥40.6 billion, with lower sales but higher profit. The operating margin rose from 1.9% to 3.3%. With only one year in office, it is too early to judge the results of his measures.
