Background
He joined FUJIFILM in April 1977 and 39 years later, in June 2016, became Representative Director, President and COO of the holding company. Its shares are split between trust banks and overseas institutional investors; in the fiscal year ended March 2015, just before he took office, the major shareholders were Japan Trustee Services Bank with 5.52%, The Master Trust Bank of Japan with 5.12% and Nippon Life Insurance with 3.53%. With neither a founding family nor a parent company, it is a company whose presidents are career employees promoted from within.

In 2019 the company made Fuji Xerox a wholly owned subsidiary. During his tenure consolidated revenue fell from ¥2,460.3 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2016 to ¥2,192.5 billion in FY ended March 2021, but net income rose from ¥116.4 billion to ¥181.2 billion. Even in FY ended March 2020, hit by COVID-19, the company secured income before taxes of ¥173.1 billion and net income of ¥124.9 billion.
