Background
A career employee who joined in April 1983, he became a Director of the operating company FUJIFILM Corporation in November 2016. In June 2018 he became a Director of the holding company while also serving as Managing Executive Officer of FUJIFILM, and in June 2020 he rose to Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer there. It took him 38 years from joining to become President.
Selection
In June 2021 he became Representative Director and President, succeeding Kenji Sukeno, and also became Group CEO. The change ended a structure in which Kenji Sukeno was President and Shigetaka Komori had been Representative Director, Chairman and CEO since June 2012. In the fiscal year before he took office, ended March 2021, consolidated revenue was ¥2,192.5 billion, income before taxes ¥235.9 billion and net income ¥181.2 billion, with lower revenue but higher profit than the year before.

He put contract manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals at the center of investment. Consolidated revenue grew from ¥2,525.7 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2022 to ¥3,195.8 billion in FY ended March 2025, and income before taxes from ¥260.4 billion to ¥340.6 billion.
