Background

Born in Nakatsu City, Oita Prefecture, in 1909, he graduated from Kwansei Gakuin in 1933, joined Dainippon Celluloid, and moved to Fuji Photo Film in 1934. He became deputy head of Accounting in 1945 and head of Accounting in 1950, and became a Director in June 1954. Amid colleagues who reached the board from chief plant engineer or plant head, he rose to Director from accounting.

Selection

Like his predecessor Setsutaro Kobayashi, he graduated from Kwansei Gakuin and came via Dainippon Celluloid as part of the 1934 intake. He served as Managing Director and Senior Managing Director during Kobayashi's presidency and became President in June 1971. In the fiscal year before he took office, ended October 1970, revenue was ¥100.2 billion and ordinary income ¥12.1 billion; he took over just after revenue first topped ¥100 billion.

Initiatives

Ordinary income, ¥14.7 billion in the fiscal year ended October 1973, fell to ¥12.8 billion in FY ended October 1974 and ¥9.4 billion in FY ended October 1975. It recovered to ¥20.2 billion in FY ended October 1976 and ¥26.4 billion in FY ended October 1977. Revenue grew from ¥100.2 billion in the year before he took office to ¥312.2 billion in FY ended October 1979, the year before he stepped down. In May 1980 he became Representative Director and Chairman.
