Background

He joined the company in April 1961 and became head of the Programming Bureau in May 1980. He became a Director in June 1983 and Managing Director in June 1986, rising through program scheduling to become President in June 1988, 27 years after joining and eight years after becoming head of the Programming Bureau. When he joined, the company was named Fuji Television Network, Inc.; it adopted its current name with the shift to a certified broadcasting holding company in October 2008.

Education: Waseda University, Faculty of Education (1961)

Selection

In June 1988 he moved up from Managing Director to President. The roster has no record of earlier generations, so his predecessor cannot be identified. He was promoted after eight years as head of the Programming Bureau and five as a Director, an appointment that put the officer responsible for program scheduling at the top. His presidency lasted 13 years, until he became Representative Director and Chairman in June 2001.

Initiatives

During his tenure the company's capital structure changed twice. In April 1995 it absorbed Fujisankei Group Headquarters, the group's holding company. In August 1997 it listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Even after he left the presidency for the chairmanship, he decided on making Nippon Broadcasting System a wholly owned subsidiary in September 2005 and on the shift to a certified broadcasting holding company in October 2008.
